Episode 169 :: Gordon Parks

Show Notes

Best remembered for his narrative photography style, Gordon Parks was one of the more prolific artists of the 20th Century. With skills covering a wide range of mediums he was able to produce a diverse and beautiful canon of works. Parks was a poet, author, composer, pianist, painter and most notably a photographer.

Having grown up during the height of segregation and racism, Parks transcended all who told him he’d never amount to anything. He became one of the most brilliant photographers America has had to offer in the history of photography.

His best know works were produced for the Farm Securities Administration and later for LIFE magazine. Most of his subjects portray the human condition with profound senses of storytelling, metaphor and storytelling.
